What the Heck is a Royal Buffalo Hunt?
Thoughts on the Royal Buffalo Hunt and Fall 2009:
I would have loved to have been present to see the meshing of three dramatically different cultures for this historic event. Led by the flamboyant William Cody, who was already starting to become the showman we know today; I can quite imagine the spectacle. In my mind’s eye, I can see Custer & Alexei enjoying too much caviar and Champagne. (and the women too, if you read between the lines) I can see a brooding Chief Spotted Tail reluctantly performing mock Indian fights in trade for 17 wagon loads of supplies, and above all I can see the majesty of God’s pristine plains covered in the once abundant buffalo.
It is to my Creator, my family and to the memory of those hunters that I dedicate this collection.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story…how wild are the tales of the American West, and it really wasn’t all that long ago! I am just brushing the surface of learning some Western history, being a Carolina girl who’s now lived in Colorado for 3 years….I’ve been intrigued and inspired by the mining history around me. The fall ’09 collection (especially some of the names of pieces) makes much more sense on a deeper level now. Thanks for sharing this inspiration in blog form…I’m excited to read more!
Jess, thanks for your feedback. For years I have had all of the inspiration & fun stories behind the scenes, but just no good way to share it. Finally: Blogging! Who would have ever known – it is perfect and personal.
