A Rainy Ride
I heard the dogs barking and going crazy yesterday morning, so I peeked out Audrey’s kitchen window to catch the Mesquite Trail-riders on their way to the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Boy, it sure did make me homesick for a trail-ride.
I’m going to go dig up our trail-ride pictures for you and post them next week in celebration of the start of Texas rodeo season. In the meantime, enjoy these riders from Adkins Texas as they make their way to San Antonio by way of Seguin.

Also saw these riders Sun. on the way to Dallas but was happy to be in our car!
I love it! This brings back memories when I was growing up and Trail Riders would come through Hallettsville heading to the Houston Rodeo. It would be cold and rainy but there were 100’s of riders. They would camp out for the night in Wied, TX . There was a big stew and the annual Trail Riders dance!

I have an older newsletter that I think your Dad put out called “The Roundup of Double D” from April, 1994 – it has pictures of you & Audrey & Hedy & your Dad – and even Colin & Barbara Brockman riding in the Salt Grass Trail Ride from Cat Spring to Houston – of course you gals are “stylin” dressed in Scout jackets & sombreros – what fun!!
I agree, Dorothy! I was freezing just standing there for a few minutes to take their pictures. They sure were dedicated and having lots of fun, though.

Yes, Chris, I’m looking for those pictures! I want to dig them out and post them – we had such a great time on that ride. Barbara and Colin were hysterical – they couldn’t understand why people would want to do this “trail-ride thing”. Yes, and of course we had to make it a fashion show – we are always looking for an excuse to pull out the vintage Double D!
We passed three different groups on our way into Yoakum yesterday. They all looked so cold. It seems like each year we get bad weather the first week of Rodeo.
I hope you find those pictures. I do not remember seeing them but I was just a virgin to Double D in 1994. I wonder if there is still have a copy of the news letter up in the archives.
