Orphans Preferred

The Pony Express turns 150 this year and the folks over in St. Joseph, Missouri put on a big ‘to-do’ to commemorate and celebrate the starting off point for the overland riders.

.

I read the editorial on the Pony Express in Cowboys and Indians Magazine and would have loved to have gone and participated in all of the events and reenactments.

.

Take a look at Jane’s pictures … and if you want to know more about the Pony Express, peruse April’s Cowboys & Indian’s issue or go online to read the story of how the Pony Express began, ended… and everything in-between.

.

Jane Says: Here is the line up for the Buffalo Bill Look-alike Contest.  The winner received $500 in gold pieces and the runner up received $100 in silver.  (guy in the top, center won and the guy in the lower left was runner up)

.

Jane says: Here we have Mr. & Mrs. George Armstrong Custer in front of the original Pony Express stables.  I am glad I got to meet Mr. Custer before his last stand!

.

I have always romanticized over the Pony Express “Help Wanted” flier and would love to do a t-shirt based on it:

Wanted. Young, skinny, wiry fellows. Not over 18. Must be expert riders. Willing to risk death daily. Orphans preferred.
