Fashion to dye for…..

One of the biggest trends this season is Ombré Soirée,

and it may surprise you to hear that this trend most recently resurfaced with (drum roll please..)

our HAIR!

Graduating fades of color are popping up on red carpets and the runway

for numerous reasons, one of which is the flattering attributes of the

dip-dyed effect.

Usually a multicolored stripe, with colors graduating from light to dark.
In textiles, the color effect is woven into the fabric by arranging different
tones in the warp or the effect can be achieved after weaving by dip-dying.

Double D Ranch’s  Combat Rock Jacket is based on vintage military field jackets, but the “jazz” is definitely in the music.

When I was designing the Combat Rock Jacket I imagined my Gypset girl going to music festivals and rock concerts and effortlessly wearing a vintage military jacket with big pockets and plenty of storage.

of course she would be sans handbag… who wants to go to a concert with a purse?!

Next, since she has had this jacket for years, I imagined her collecting some really cool patches along the way from all of the great music festivals and even a backstage pass or two …  Monterrey Pop, Woodstock, Lilith Fair, Glastonbury & even one from Austin City Limits.

And finally, for a little fun and so she wouldn’t forget, I imagined her randomly scribbling a few lyrics that were music to her ear.

Peep Toe Booties

So we’ve broken down a few bootie do’s & dont’s  for you.

BOOTIES & JEANS: A skinny jean or straight legged pant can compliment any colored peep toe booties. Tuck the bottom of your jeans into the boot for a finished look.

BOOTIES & STOCKINGS : What was once a fashion faux pas, now hits the runways and pages of magazines filled with celebrities. However – “Try to keep the color of the hosiery matching the color of the shoe”, says Barbara Atkin the fashion director at Holt Renfrew. (Also makes your legs look longer!)

BOOTIES & JEWELRY: Partner your peep toe booties with accessories that compliment, not clash. If your booties have metallic elements, throw on some similar necklaces or rings.

BOOTIES AT THE OFFICE: Incorporate peep toe booties into your office wear by simply putting them on! It’s not a casual take on the business suit, it’s modern take on the business suit. Booties also go great with a pencil skirt and a splash of color with a button down blouse.

BOOTIES & COWGIRLS: Y’all know I love my cowboy boots, but you have to mix things up a bit.  I think peep-toe booties add just the right amount of poison.

The town of Pendleton grew up around its main employer, the Pendleton Woolen Mills and since 1909, the Mill has produced high-quality striped, plaid, and geometrically patterned Indian trade blankets.

The connection between the Indian and the Pendleton blanket  is now inseparable.  The blanket is an intrinsic part of their life celebrations and traditions. So loyal are they that when  a Native American baby is born, he is often wrapped in a Pendleton blanket.  Then at wedding celebrations, the groom frequently gives Pendelton blankets to their honored guests, and finally when someone dies in the Indian community, he may be placed in a coffin lined with a Pendleton blanket.

Talk about brand building and customer loyalty!

Well, I am a loyal customer too – remember Double D Ranch™ got its start with an ‘ol Pendelton blanket when we introduced our first blanket coat back in 1990.   Now 20 years later,  take a look at how we are adapting the indian blanket into easy wearing tees for our anniversary year.

Accessories can be the key to any outfit.

They can turn ‘ho-hum’ into ‘runway-ready’ in a blink of the eye.

One accessory category that is getting a lot of editorial play is hosiery.  Whether it be textured laces or bold patterned tights, hosiery is a quick, simple and inexpensive way to turn up the volume for any outfit.

Our good friend, Martina Real Bird from Montana, has been asking about the “legs” our stylist used on Double D’s fall photo shoot,  so I thought we would share those as well as others that coordinate with our fall collection.

.

Lauren, our stylist, selected several pair of bright fun patterns.  Her merchandising theory was to contrast vivid legs against the darks of winter.  I like the way she injected the fuchsia tight into the predominately black silhouette, pulling out the beautiful embroidery colors of the Trippy Hippie Jacket.

At the other swing of the pendulum,  I added a little “grrr” by bringing in some exotic animal prints.  In fact, if you are only going to splurge on one pair of tights this season, I would definitely recommend a really good pair in a leopard or crocodile pattern.
