Bolo, Inlay, Vintage, Zuni, Eagle Dancer

If you collect John Lucio, today is your lucky day!

This bolo by master Zuni artist, John Lucio, features John’s most famous motif -  the Eagle Dancer - the powerful Zuni spirit who rules the sky and carries messages to the heavens. It is crafted with Lucio’s distinct channel inlay of turquoise, coral, jet, and mother of pearl set in precise silver work. It has a clamp style backing and braided leather cords with sterling silver tips.  The reverse has an original paper sticker (we have left it in place) that reads, “Zuni book I, page 20,” - and refers to Bell”s 1970s Zuni, The Art, and the People.

John Lucio was a talented Zuni artist (b. 1919+/-). He started producing jewelry in the 1930's as an apprentice to several of the older Zuni masters.  He soon became a master himself and is considered one of the greats.

He is perhaps most famous for his "Eagle Dancer" design.  His work is featured in featured in the major Native American jewelry catalogs and reference books.
