The knifewing is one of our favorite Zuni figures in jewelry design. This mythological winged-being is a key deity who swoops down from the heavens and carries off beautiful maidens. He first appeared in jewelry designs for sale in 1928.
This vintage bolo from the 1960s is fashioned from sterling silver inlaid with mother of pearl, jet, turquoise, and spiny oyster. A black braided cord with 2-inch sterling tips is affixed to the bolo with a double bar back. It is a fine example of Zuni lapidary work.
