Nugget necklaces were some of the earliest forms of Native American jewelry in the Southwest. Originally crafted in turquoise, spiny oyster shell was later introduced. This shell ranges in color from deep purple to bright orange and is coveted as a natural gem coming from the sea. Native American legends see the shell as an extension of the spirit world.
This necklace features a single strand of natural, orange spiny oyster tabs spaced with natural turquoise stones. It closes with elongated sterling silver desert pearls and shepherd's hook & eye.
It is a vintage piece acquired from a Montana estate and a beautiful example of Native American lapidary work. We like layering it turquoise necklaces.
