Editors are Forecasting: Safely Grunged

In designing FREEBIRD, I wanted to give some pieces a bit of an edge and push them just a bit.  I had been seeing forecasts for hardware like chains, safety pins and spikes, but I didn't want a hard  "Sex Pistols" look.   I wanted it young and fresh and I certainly didn't want to de-face the British monarchy.

So pulling together what we do best, I designed a classic biker jacket, with an even more classic graphic - the American flag and then just grunged it up a bit with rubbed out distressing, nails and safety pins. Ironically, while we were shooting this garment for the catalog, someone on set needed a safety pin! So it's not only a killer piece - it's resourceful too!
