DEBUNKIN’ STYLE SUPERSTITIONS

Right back from the time the rodeo began in Pecos in 1883, the contestants have had some crazy superstitions. Cowboys never rode with change in their pockets for fear that would be all they'd win, they avoided eating chicken before a contest 'cause you are what you eat, and they'd always shave before goin' into the arena 'cause Lady Luck was said to favor those who cleaned up for her!

Some of the superstitions made logical sense. No cowboy would dare put his hat on his bed in case something terrible happened to him, but in reality in those days people only bathed once a month, so if you put your hat down anywhere you had to be real careful about picking up unwanted lice!

But the rodeo superstition that bugs us most of all is that cowboys never wore yellow. It was seen as a cowardly color and so no cowboy dared wear it in the arena. Folks watching the rodeo shied away from yellow too. Now if you've seen our new Pecos collection, you'll know we think that's a load of nonsense. Blue and yellow go beautifully together and we like to think the color has connotations of sunshine, happiness and gold!

But this got us thinkin' 'bout other style superstitions. Ever heard of:

• Red and green should never be seen.

• Putting new shoes on the table is bad luck.

• Opening an umbrella indoors is a big no no.

• Don't do laundry on New Year's Day or you're washing away a loved one!

We couldn't help but laugh when we remembered some of 'em. Of course you gotta wear when you want, when you want and how you want. Especially when it comes to yellow!
